Butterfly Lifeline...Temporary

Three perfect butterflies, heralding the sun
Lit upon my unmarked grave
“this man should not be dead”
Cared for my carcass, so sweet so tender
Infused me with breath in renewed hope for tomorrow
A thousand years couldn’t wither these strings
Pulled me from my grave

Time and circumstance the only enemy
They had to float on as the sun chose to set
Yet those strings couldn’t, cannot be severed, not for a thousand years
Their absence destroys, that which they had once saved….
Pulled away from me

Left again lifeless,choking on hope…breath in, suffocate
As I watch them fade from view….
I am not ok
I am not….
